I'm sad that THIS Alison was replaced by a pop star :( She kicked the grass... but now that Alison is dead.

I got a tip to go check AK in the spring of 1990 - I had no idea who she was - here in Kansas City in a bar that seated about 50 people. I was so hooked after hearing her and this very lineup and have turned on countless folks for this most wonderful band.
She came around a year later to open up for the Nashville Cats in a 500 seat venue and I got to talk to her after they did their set - what a cool, unassuming massive talent !

I just stumbled on this exchange. It sure isn't the kind visits I've had with bluegrass musicians. Please remember what drew you to this kind of music.

Further more nonmax15 we are both wrong. This could have been talked about better than this, when I made my original post I should have thought first and said "similar". Neither of us were talking about what aspects of each styles. I should have said, "he has a similar style as shown here." Yes I admit I was wrong but you were wrong making assumptions about my playing ability too, like I said I am not tooting my own horn but I know what other people have said about myself and what I play.
-
And another thing since I ran out of characters in the last post, I DO NOT need to prove anything to you, this is just an opinion and this is mine. If you want to think what you want then go ahead, but DO NOT call someone else out and tell them they're wrong when the facts are there. I have played ever since I was 8 and now 19 and I can tell you if there was ever people like you around here that was to "encourage" me to play, I would be a little punk playing metal music.

Well thats good, we'll see in the future. But like I said I'm not tooting my own horn and bashing anyone so therefore drop the whole situation. All I did was voice my opinion and YOU started calling me out by saying up above, that I don't know what I'm talking about and play both styles. For one thing, I play with influences of different styles, not some TR clone out like pretty well every other guitar player out there. There is only one TR and will be only one TR! You cant reinvent the wheel.
-
Well, super picker. I don't see that you have anything up here so why don't you grace us with some videos of you playing all these wonderful styles. I'm dying to see some.
-
Well Bubba.. you can think what you want to.. I know what I am capable of, and can play and do it efficiently, I cannot say the same for you and I will not say anymore because I am not here to bash anyone, but you are intitled to your opinion no matter how wrong you are.....
-
I did think first that's why I said that. There's no way you know what your talking about, and can play both styles if you make a comment like that. Sorry, but that's my opinion. But, I stand by it 100%.

Yeah I think Dan plays just a little harder then Tim though. I like Ron Blocks banjo work on this song when they recorded it on the Everytime You Say Goodbye album
man...if you can find the river band stuff i'd LOVE to see it

I found it. I've just got to convert the VHS to digital, make my clips and then upload them. Doesn't take too long...just hard finding the time to do it!!

NOS454V8 I don't agree. Stafford has a completely different style than Dan. I know you probably won't agree but if you could play both you'd know they're not the same.

I personally agree with you nonmax15. Which reminds me...somewhere around here I have some home video I made about 1990 of The Lonesome River Band. The members consisted of Dan Tyminski on mandolin, Tim Austin on guitar, Jerry McMillan on bass, and Dale Perry on banjo. If I can dig it up I'll post some clips.
