QUESTIONER: . . . [explains that he's a candidate for city council in a nearby town and 9/11 survivor] [applause] My question for you is this, my nine-year-old daughter told me, in the wake of Hillary's loss, that she wants to be the first woman president for the "red people" as we call them in my house. Please describe how you think your presidency will open up more opportunity for the young girls of America. [applause]

JOHN MCCAIN: . . . I respect and admire the campaign that Sen. Clinton waged [applause] she motivated women young and old all over this nation and the world to prove that there is opportunity for everyone to go as far as their ambitions will take them and she waged a very tough and honorable campaign. I have to make sure that young people, young women and young men understand that I am dedicated to the proposition of handing off to them a safer and more prosperous world and the immediate issues that affect them. That they have an affordable and available education, that they have an affordable and available health care system, that they don't have to worry about, particularly if they are changing jobs, as happens more and more often in this information-technology, that there will be no discrimination of any kind, that they will be able to go as far as their ambitions will take them. And I believe that we are seeing great progress but I also believe that we have a long way to go and educational opportunities provided and making sure that there is an ability to serve this nation in a variety of ways and I am convinced that I have to do the job of convincing young women in America, and young men that my one goal, as I said before, is putting the country first but also being dedicated to hand them a world a nation that is more prosperous and safer and secure than the one before. That's why were' going to do as much communication and as much interaction as we possibly can and I hope that your daughter will see in ways that none of us have.
