Prior to this, he played a leading role as Turkish ambassador in the shuttle diplomacy for the settlement of the 2008 Israel-Gaza conflict, was a key advisor to the Turkish Prime Minister on the future direction of Turkish Foreign Policy and held academic and administrative roles in various institutions.
