I live by Luton Airport and remember Ryanair using these beasts years ago,i never got tired of hearing them RR's crackle and shake the windows!!! All we get now is gay 737-800s and A319s :(

Rolls royce speys, what a pair of engines. I'm 29 year old and this sound takes me back to the early to mid 90's when i was only 10 or 11. They used to do the newcastle to gatwick flights back then. You never hear commercial jets that sound like that now. a noise that will be missed. I think this was the reason they were taken out of service when the new noise regulations came in. They tried to put hushkits on them to make them quieter but didn't succeed for very long.

This must surely be a British Airways flight operated by Maersk Air Uk Bac1-11. I was a Maersk (UK) Air purser on board these aircraft, having formerley been with Birmingham Executive Airways on Jetstreams, Gulfstream G159s,and F 50s.Bugger long haul- the 1-11 was fun!

what a classic,i use to fly on the 1-11 between manchester and belfast aldergrove back in the 80's and early 90's!!noisest aircraft ive ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!then the service by B.A changed their aircraft to A.T.P'S, JETSREAM 41'S, BAE 146'S etc!!!nowadays the manchester to belfast international and city airport service is operated by "greener"(boring)lol fleets by bmi baby and flybe!!!!yawn yawn!!!bring back a 1-11 service for those of us that want to fly on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved these planes when they were very common at Birmingham in the late 80s early 90s, noisy old beast! I live on the western side of Coventry a few miles from BHX and saw these flying over my house all the time taking off and landing. They were renowned for their noise and a few other strange sound effects like the engine start sound, a bit like a large motorbike accelerating in the distance,and the airbakes on these planes made a funny sound aswell like it was about to fall out of the sky!
