Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Councilmember Jose Huizar were on hand to introduce the Bringing Back Broadway initiative. The goal is to revitalize the Broadway district in Los Angeles and make L.A. a theater capital once again.
They should also think about the fashion district... It doesn't even seem like a fashion district... They should add all the stores from rodeo drive and put them in the fashion district. Prada, Coach, Gucci, Valentino, Dolce Gabbana, Armani, Vivienne, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Tiffany, Juicy, Fendi etc etc etc!!!! Make it a REAL FASHION DISTRICT.
before i knew anything about broadway LA or that it even exsited i drove down it and thought it was really cool. i could see a huge potential for that street. hopefully when when you hear "Broadway" people wont think of just new york
It will take only a few years to do the landscaping, signs and streetlamps, but the streetcar that is supposed to stretch for 9 blocks will take longer.
Broadway is the downtown equivalent of a hot babe, even in its dirty state. No city has such a beautiful time capsule of early 20th century retail and commercial architecture. I have no idea why LA thinks it will take 12 years to complete the plans discussed here. Smaller cities like Cleveland have done at least this in just three years. But it will be a good thing.
Ideally, Broadway will regain a bit of retail presence again, too. A few national chains couldn't hurt in the mix.
