Rod Argent recorded live with The Zombies at the 2010 Du Maurier Festival in Fowey, Cornwall, UK. Seen here performing his 1971 classic 'Hold Your Head Up'. Who said prog rock was dead?
...Argent was always my second-favorite r/r keyboard player behind Keith Emerson. I frankly never saw the fascination with "one-handed wonder" Jon Lord or Steve Howe's sideman, Rick Wakeman.
I don't care how other people will respond;- This guy was always better than Jon Lord who's no 3 on that Top Keyboards list- and although Lord's very humorous he is more than a little above his station. He never attended a classical institution. Argent on the other hand, took a couple of years lessons, left it, had ambitions to be a singer, and originally was with the Zombies-until he took keyboard duties for them on a number-jaws dropped.
I heard that over the last couple of years, Colin Blunstone has gotten rave reviews on lead vox... not sure if that's him standing at the mic, but al the voices sound great, including Rod's. The man seems to have hardly aged. I've always loved Rod as a fine keyboardist who can rock hard then dive into jazz and classical-leaning pieces (like Coming of Kohoutek); and even more importantly, hold my interest as a musicians' musician -- a fine composer. The man hasn't aged a day in 25 years.
A magic performance. What a fantastic concert that must have been. Did you notice that Rod often plays with his nose 6 inches from the keyboard? Ironic when playing "Hold Your Head Up"
Incredible musicianship, you bet, but awesome performance as well!

Rod uses a Kawai keyboard on the "lower shelf." The Kawai Web site says the model is MP8.

Over 40 years of rock. These guys are awesome!!
It looks like Rod is playing a Hammond-Suzuki XK3 as a top keyboard.
Anyone recognize the lower keyboard?
