  • Enjoyed this one a lot, especially GV's just anger at the oak-throttled #4 wine.

    Napa winemaking culture is tacky. (That's not what GV said, he's not so dismissive; it's my view.) Some of it's ultra-expensive tackiness, some is knockoff tackiness, but it's (almost) all vulgar and unrewarding.

    They have some of the finest wine-growing terrain on the planet and that #4 wine is how they waste it.

  • Try a 2004 Sterling Vineyards Three Palms Merlot... simply divine.

  • my favorite was/is Canon de Brem, from the Fronsac. I think the one I loved most was a '95.

  • l like barrels, don't like fresh trees

  • i only tried New Zealand Merlots, some were not bad at all.. tasty

  • I actually still haven't found a Merlot that i like... but i keep trying
