Call it a quick getaway.
An Elkhart County man's race car is stolen in a matter of minutes.
It happened early Friday morning and he believes the thieves stole it by simply hitching up the car's trailer.
Nick Shepherd was trying to sell his car. It was sitting in the front yard of his parent's house when it was stolen. Elkhart County Police are now investigating but an arrest has not been made. Shepherd spent the last two years rebuilding the car.
He says the car's trailer locking system was bypassed.
"The car is essentially brand new," says Shepherd. "We rebuilt the whole thing. I've had the car for two years and right after I got it, we tore it apart."
This is the third race car that's been stolen recently in northern Indiana. The cars aren't street legal so Shepherd believes they will be stripped down and the parts sold.
