I got an email from Avaaz, the famous international activist group asking me to take part on a global climate change wake up call. I looked at the map they sent and there were none near me and I volunteered to host one at Avoca beach, Central Coast, NSW.

Since I feel bikes have been left out of the climate change tool kit, especially in Australia where they are seen mainly and sports and leisure machines with few taking them seriously as transport , I'd call our Avoca Beach action, Planet Bike

it was very much at the last minute, and touch and of if anyone would come and, as you'll see they....

  • Hey Mike! Too bad nobody showed up. Have you found any other videos of the event in different parts of the world yet?

I liked the shots of you going around in circles and talking to the camera. Send a hug to Ellen from me!

  • I haven't seen anything else vVoeta. They are vague about what they'll do with this stuff which is not encouraging,

Nicoc351 above sounds like he/she might be part of the team. Mike.

  • Thank you for making this video, as days pass by other videos will be added of events like yours from all over the world. Taking action like you did proves to me that there are people who care about climate change all over the world and that it is the collective voice of these individuals that will make a change. I hope to see you ride your bike some day althought I'm halfway across the world.

  • Thank you, NILoc351, I guess I'll be informed when you've bundled all the vent videos together. I'm anxious to see what others did.

  • I know your pain. I live in Newfoundland Canada we have NO bicycle lanes what so ever. Bicycles are banned in: Every park, path, sidewalk, public space and there is no legislation regarding bicycles. According to the current regulations we are cars, We have No protection and are considered a public nuisance. Police will tell people to get their bikes off the road in certain areas because it is holding up traffic. We had a section of the trans Canada trail system but most of it is now condemned.

  • Thanks, Bunga, I lived in Montreal for many years, but was blind to bikes at that time of my life.

I had no idea it was so bad in your part of the country. Are you and others fighting this horrible situation? I think Electric bikes can be a useful tool in the battle in that they make biking easier of older folks, and everyone in hilly areas, and yet still bring back all the delights of cycling.

The have to be good ones. I've heard good things about the Quebec, BionX

  • "Do you think it would fair to say that a country that can't, or wont use bikes for short trips is not serious about climate change"? Simple answer YES.. Same for the govt statement.

I could not agree more with your video.

BTW, I went to a so called zero emmisions climate change meeting, where supposedly the people there were there because they wanted to do something about climate change. There was only 1 bike, and it was mine. Bunch of hypocrites.

  • Good Vid your daughters bike is very cool in a funky sort of way.

The electric assist I'm sorry will never be cool but it will always be handy in the mountains

  • You are a great person, thanks for the awesome video.

    Cheers!

  • Hi Mike, I loved your video. I also biked to a flash mob (about 25 k!) at the Canadian Parliament Buildings from my rural hideout. I met up with my Dad too (retired Mountie!) and his gf. Bikes are indeed a big part of the solution. I'm off for a bike ride!

  • Hi MIke! It was great to see you and your gorgeous Ellen going round and round! Here in Montreal the bike lanes are growing like weeds, everywhere. But our cyclists have a tendency to terrorize the pedestrians and play at out-witting the drivers, which makes for a bit of stress too. Montrealers have taken to bikes in gigantic numbers. Some even ride all winter.

  • Another great video! I've never been that big on climate change, however I have smelt a marked decrease in air quality here in the UK. You can go for a walk near certain roads and you get a metallic taste on your tongue and headaches - that cant be good imo.

I think there are many environmental changes we as humans have influenced and sadly it can only get worse the more of us there are.
