Mentos in Ice (Time Lapse)

There's a picture floating around depicting an idea for a prank using Mentos frozen in an ice cube put in an unsuspecting person's Diet Coke. Give it time and the mentos will melt out of the ice cube and foam all over the person.

However, this video shows it is impossible for that to happen. The mentos dissolve too much in the cube itself in order for nucleation to occur. Bust.

This is just me theorizing, but I think it doesn't work because the rough surface of the Mentos (what causes the reaction in the first place) gets dissolved in the water before it freezes.
