@missmochashake what he taught were the basic, the strategy concept. I believe what you're looking for is tactic. Tactics are acquired through experience. One good way to learn tactics is to play vs computer with undo option. this way you could understand how tactics work.

i suppose u could think of pawns as a infantry with shield, head 2 head they wud hit eachothers shield, but could hit the side of a diagonal opponent pawn, just a guess

@warblerab Chess has more to do with memorization and intuition. I met this homeless old man once, and he was a monster at chess. How do you explain this? Your status in life has no bearing on your chess skills.
