Prelude e Fuga for Solo Doublebass in the Vienese Tuning written in 2010 for Edioson Ruiz. The Fugue is a 4 voices Fugue. It is considered by the critic like the most difficult piece ever written.
Like so much contemporary music, it looks a bit like who can write the most difficult piece. If its only raison d'être is its difficulty, then it probably belongs in a circus. There is a certain "show" aspect in the piece that is interesting for about 15 seconds, and Ruiz has a lot of aplomb and an incredible technique. But as far as i'm concerned that is the only good thing about it. Waste of energy i'm afraid.
@padredemishijos12 This is a very weak and also a bad argument: "You have no right to be a critic because he is a talent and an established musician, and you are not". To call this "garbage" is another thing, but criticism should not be forbidden or belittled just because someone does not like it. It's good to have critical audiences, and I hope that composers like Holliger listen to the listeners, why they do not like to listen to their music ...
I believe there is a false note at 7:22. Don't you think so ... ? :-)
But serious: The modern classical music has come to a strange place in culture. It seems like that many modern composers think if they do not make music with a lot of nasty sounds the critics won't regard them as serious at all. But what about the audience? Many will scratch their heads and wonder, many will turn their backs and walk away embarassed. And in many senses they are right ...
@jooelywooely no one cares about your opinion. Maestro Ruiz is great, and you are not. He is a member of the best orchestra in the planet. The Berlin Philharmonic

P. S. What orchestra do you play in?

@vitoliuzzi 4 voices? Yes, inner voices, as very often happens in Bach's works for solo instruments.
