Well RJ himself said that they basically threw this video together and didnt put much thought into it. And being the cool guy that he certainly was, he would probably be flattered, or at least polite and be grateful for what he probably would have taken as flattery.
Myself, (and Im sure I'll get attacked for this), but as a musician, filmmaker, and a fan of Ronnie James Dio for over 30 years , I dont see this as flattering at all, but more of a mockery. As you said yourself - pointless.

The original video really had nothing to do with the song and made no sense. It looks like he hasn't showered in weeks, his hair is a mess, his teeth look awful. With that said, this video is bad ass. The way he's walking on the building and the hand and arm motions makes you want more. Only Dio can take a cheesy video and make you want to watch over and over. Brings back memories.
