An Interfaith 9/11 Remembrance: Hands Across the Square

CAIR-Philadelphia Civil Rights Intern, Zuneera Masood and Muslim Chaplin at the University of Pennsylvania, Marc Manley.

An interfaith coalition of religious congregations and organizations from center city Philadelphia gathered to commemorate the heroes and victims of 9/11 and to pray for unity and peace on Rittenhouse Square.

Religious and community leaders read from various religious scriptures, and prayers were said for peace, unity and all who were lost on 9/11. The program concluded with people of all faiths and traditions standing across the square, holding hands in peace.

Hands Across the Square was organized by the Center City Residence Association and the City of Philadelphia in partnership with: Church of Holy Trinity (Rittenhouse Square); Council on American-Islamic Relations Philadelphia; Dialogue Forum - Turkish American Community; First Baptist Church; First Church of Christ Scientist; First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia; Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion; Philadelphia Shambhala Center; St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church; St. Mark's Church; Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel; Tenth Presbyterian Church and Liberti Church; Trinity Memorial Church.
