Du gamla, du fria (Sweden) Parody, ThDubya

Don't miss my other anthems! So far, the parodies for the UK (twice), Canada, Germany, Norway, France, the US, Russia, Italy, Sweden, China, Japan, Israel, North Korea, Australia and many more have been released.

Du gamla, Du fria ("Thou ancient, Thou free") is the de facto national anthem of Sweden. It was originally named Sång till Norden ("Song to the Nordic"), and the first words of its lyrics has just been assumed also to be the title over the years. The original lyrics were written by Richard Dybeck in 1844. Swedish composer Edvin Kallstenius arranged the traditional melody from Västmanland.



I mean no offense to the countries parodied. In fact, most of these countries are my favorites, and I wish them all my best. Sweden is among the top 15 nations I like.

The hostage takers-joke is a reference to the (in)famous Stockholm syndrome.
