Thanks a lot!

@pegeffs Great... I'll buy a new HD this week ... thanks again.

So I took these two apart and they are Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB drives. I've decided the noise is not coming from the fan end at all, but more likely from the hard disk itself. Weird how people are having similar problems with drives from different manufacturers. The enclosure seems well-made so I guess all that's needed is a new hard disk inside...when the prices drop. I do photography/video so I need the big TBs.

I called HP about BOTH my 2TB drives and got a big run-around. Was my case vibrating? Could I hold the drive to the phone so they could hear? That was early on when the noise was intermittent and it never happened when I was speaking with HP. I finally gave up and worked around the buzzing/rattling/grating (for example, not pushing the drives all the way in until absolutely needed, which was inconvenient.) The hard disks have worked fine for 2 years so my money is on the fans as the problem.

gracias!
What brand of hard drive was inside? I couldn't see from the video.

@fe900571 Yes, from the start it was a 160 gb and i changed it to a 2tb without problems :)

@fe900571 just be sure about the RPM of the drive. Im not sure, but if it revs higher, it should be using more power, wich isnt good. I think ^^
