Iwate Swan 4: Obon Festival

Hey gang! So I had the good pleasure of visiting a very traditional Japanese Obon Festival. it is a festival held in Japan usually in the summer months. It is a festival that honors the dead ancestors that have come before you. So you return to your hometown and celebrate in their honor. A lot of the celebrating revolves around dancing around a giant tower to very traditional Japanese music. It was a really fun time, and a great way to interact with the local community. i predict this video will get far less views than the previous 3 as it is a much more "traditional" japan video. That's how it went with my tokyo swan shows. Still, I think it's important to show this side of Japan.. it's not all manga and games haha ;)

So far, I'm liking Iwate Swan a LOT better than Tokyo Swan. Tokyo Swan was a lot of fun, because there's a lot of crazy, pretty out-there things in Tokyo and it's so immense. But there's really this other-worldly charm to the rural towns. And I kind of like that feeling. The feeling of a community being a little more tight-knit.

Man, I gotta visit Japan sometime, I would love to see these rural areas.

I wish I could attend anything remotely close to the Obon Festival. It looked so beautiful, with the yukata, music and lanterns lit up in the dark. I'm more drawn to that side of Japan than the 'otaku' side.
