This poem is written in common meter (rotates between iambic tetrameter and iambic trimeter) so it naturally has a song-like quality. Many folk songs are written in this pattern. It explains why you can sing almost any Dickinson poem to the tune of "Amazing Grace" or "The Yellow Rose of Texas."

Sure like the little quick trill you do early-on in the song. Sets a wonderful tone.

Truly wonderful, ANdreas! I could not imagine that I would like anything better than a simple reading of Emily's poem, but this is a remarkable rendering. I love it!

Dear Andreas,
Wonderful rendition of one of the greatest poems.

thanks so much again, Dear Dimple! it's fascinating, btw., that some melodies come quick like this one, and some take months to elaborate (like my "Pines", that will take up to next year, lol, I think!) how differently that goes! wishing you a very nice Advent time! :o)

I like your new video style very much Andreas. You found a wonderful melody for Emily's poem. I have never read her work but knew of it since 7th grade. I believe I would enjoy her words of wisdom and beauty now. "the cornice but a mound" such an interesting lyric, presented with a touch of Jackson C Frank if you don't mind me saying so. I've been listening to him lately ;o) The acoustic guitar sounds so nice.

hey Mary, thanks soo much!!! it's often we might rediscover poems we had been treated with at school, but had no mind nor mood to receive them then. oh and thanks sooo much for the hint to JC Frank!! didn't know him and just had to listen to some of his pieces! oh my, what a flattering comparison!! he's got all gifts to become my new hero besides Elliott Smith and Nick Drake! 1000 thanks for that!! :))
