Every day my Grandfather came home form the mines. He would wait until he knew we had "stole away" in the truck. We raided his bucket, and there was always three pieces of candy, one for each of us. But as far as we knew, we got away with a good one. He would get out of the truck all blacked up, go get his tub and then it was time with us...then the milking to be done. He went into the mines at age 13, and taught my brother the ropes.

very nice friend..its a great song and I have a great respect for the men of the deeps. My dad was a longshorman on the west coast for 42 yrs, very dangerous job too, lost many friends,,he adopted this as his song too..when he ritired

I mined for 31 years. Every time I hear this song, it brings me to tears. We're a special breed miners. What sets us apart is not only the work but the comraderie that is found in no other industry.
