Here's how I beat the final boss, the Supreme Hunter, in the PC version of Prototype on Normal Difficulty. I mostly used the Muscle Mass Power and I just threw the kitchen sink at him. Also, whenever he was doing his Tendril Devastator attack, I tried my best to bob and weave between the tendrils in order to get up close to him and as soon as he was finished, I did a jumping blade attack (I forget what it's called officially).

So... (*chuckle*)... It wasn't pretty but I pulled it off. Not the best way to kill the Supreme Hunter. When I do it again, I'll probably try the Critical Pain Devastator although I'm not so sure it's good to rely on Devastator attacks with the Supreme Hunter. Maxing out your health bar is a bit problematic not to mention tedious. As you can see in this vid, I barely even bothered with that.

QUICK REVIEW

A quick review off the top of my head now that I've finished the game (actually finished a week ago but I've been busy with other stuff).

GRAPHICS

Well you can see for yourself from the vid. A lot of critics panned the graphics in Prototype criticising a weak draw distance and whatnot but I personally had no issue with that. I'm impressed with how well the game can run with all action going on in it.

GAMEPLAY

All the powers were cool and the whole RPG feel where you bought them as they became available was also cool. However, overall the gameplay was ridiculously chaotic. This is easily what I would describe as video game hell. Prototype comes at you with both barrels and it's just non-stop in-your-face from the get-go all the way through to the finish line. I found it quite difficult to develop any kind of sound strategies and learn how to play the game with enough finesse to make it enjoyable.

In fact, no video game has ever pissed me off so much (at one point I was literally pounding the keyboard with both fists in a hysterical rage..). And yet, go figure.. I actually want to play it again. However I regret starting this game out on Normal difficulty (for the very first time ever in my video game 'career'). Somebody posted on one of my other Prototype videos that they started on Easy just to get the hang of it and that is actually a very good idea and I would strongly recommend that.

Also there is definitely an issue with the controls. Often Alex (your character) simply does not do what you tell him to do. And this is coming from someone who regularly pulls off 10-hit combos in the Tekken fight game series so, IMHO, hand-eye coordination is not an issue here. The controls are definitely a little buggy and with a game this chaotic, I expect the controls to be IMMACULATE.

LAYOUT

Video games normally don't have a problem with layout but Prototype definitely does. Gripes I have about this:

* No load button. Aborting a mission and reloading is somewhat counter-intuitive.

* Game overwrites your current save slot upon completing each mission. So unless you remember to create a new save slot right after each mission starts, replaying missions after you've completed them is problematic.

* Objectives were often confusing. Simply not enough information. Often key information was fed to you too quickly (text often did not stay on the screen long enough for you to read it).

* Other times, the same useless information was fed to over and over and over again completely disrupting the gameplay. Often I found myself screaming, "Not now, dammit! I'M BUSY!!!" A lot of this should have been placed in the so-called Tutorials section in the game menu Logs section. However it wasn't and even if it was, this section got strangely deleted at the start of each mission..(?) What?!

That's about all I can think of for now. A more full blown review of Prototype will appear on my site within the next week or so and possibly a video review to match. Stay tuned (and subscribe, dagnabit!)

  • @rytinasas I found that the easiest way to kill a hunter is to either use the whipfist strong attack or use the flying kick thing a lot of times or if you want to be fast about it use the blade.
