This is video of a cold start (20F) and a walk around of my 2nd 1986 Ford Ranger with the 4D55T Misubishi Turbo Diesel engine with an actual 91K miles. Picked this truck up about 2 weeks ago. Drove it out of state and got 38 MPG.

  • hey i found a 84 Ram D50 diesel it has 230000 miles i believe its the same engine your ranger has. can you tell me if thats a good deal and if you know how long those engines last for? thanks

  • @ApSaint1 I have heard of them going over 300K but thres not a lot of them out there so you don't really hear a whole lot about them. If you get it CHANGE THE TIMING BELT. These are interferance engines and when the timing belt breaks........GAME OVER lol

  • @jsanders2006 also, do you find that these 4d55's produce a lot of blowby from the tube from the valve cover?

  • I have an 86 turbo diesel ranger. Having trouble with power. It will start and usually idle good, and rev good for a few seconds, but start loosing power and stall out. If i crank it over again, it will start up, and idle rough, then smooth out. If I baby the throttle I can drive it a bit longer. Seems like fuel starvation. Any ideas? Change filters?

  • sell?

  • @brownbassplayer That'd be a damned good trick on the Mitsu diesel! You snap the belt on these and the destruction is quite impressive and complete. I know them inside out. Either the pistons will be junk, or they'll lift the cam bearing caps, or both.

  • I bought a 2.3 Turbo-Diesel Ranger 4X4 new in 1986---Ford made less then 500 of them between 1985 & 1987. The motor was a $2500.00 option then. I still have & use this truck all the time--it has 260,000 miles on it, gets 45 MPG on the highway, & has more power & torque (pound for pound of truck weight) then any other truck I've owned! (7.3 Powerstrokes & currently a 6.6 Duramax)

  • @83Dieselranger not really you can always swap the bent valves for new ones. my grandfather broke the timing belt on my aveo twice and i fixed it both times

  • where are u at to be 20f thats fuckin cold

  • fucking great lil truck. saw one of these for the second time in my life out at a farm in montana a while back, guy said it was his lil farm truck that he bought new (barely any rust for farm truck...) and it was an 86 with the turbo and it had 314000 miles according to the old fella, very neat truck. more videos?

  • Sounds good. How about taking it for a drive around town?

  • 3 second glow plugs.........wow........
