(Former-) producer Joe Boyd called it a Fairport Convention Reunion, but the concert on Saturday, July 18 2009 at Barbican Center in London went a few miles further even than that, really. Early members Judy Dyble, Ashley Hutchings, Dave Mattacks, Iain Matthews, Simon Nicol and Richard Thompson were there to bring back memories of the first LP's the band made in the late 1960's. But during the evening they brought forward a great cast of talented artists, consisting of Chris While, Kellie While, Kamila Thompson, Teddy Thompson and Linde Nijland (from The Netherlands).
During the first and almost full size encore Teddy & Kami took their mum Linda Thompson with them on stage to take part in Si Tu Dois Partir with Linde Nijland taking the lead vocals. The song, a rather curious translation of Bob Dylan's If You Gotta Go, Go Now was the first (and last) hitsingle of the group, largely seen as iconic for the British folk-rock tradition which doesn't have much to do with selling records or making musicians wealthy.
Si Tu Dois Partir might not have been the most unexpected song dring the retro evening, a Dutch singer taking the late Sandy Denny's part in an early Fairport Convention-ish setting in London with four Thompsons in the line-up looked like not much less than musical history. Enjoy!
Fairport Convention re-invented this Bob Dylan song.

Excellent. Thanks for posting and for the notes.
We have caught Fairport on their winter tour every year for the last 15 yrs or so, mostly at Leamington Spa, and always look forward to it.
We got to Cropedy for the first time last year. Again, - excellent.
