Part 1 of my composer reel outlining my personal history of music I made. Anyone wanting music made for a game, film or other media, feel free to drop me a line!

The focus of this is the various MIDI compositions I've made over the years during my high school years.

0:00 Merinfels (2003) - First composition ever after getting a MIDI cable for my CASIO CTK-501.
0:18 Merinfels (VRC7, 2010) - Famitracker version testing VRC7 features.
0:38 Devraen Shiamizol (2003) - Unfinished overworld theme. One of my very early attempts, inspired by late-90's PC game music.
1:26 TechnoBeetz (for UPong, 2003) - A very mediocre MIDI techno piece for an (IMO) equally mediocre Pong clone by Shadowsoft Games. I was clearly a novice then.
1:55 Lamina Dextraz (for USS Icarus, 2005) - A cliche, ripoffy orchestral piece I made by request of my cousin, who wanted a theme song for his Star Trek shuttle for a roleplaying thing he was involved with. As much as it rips off so many existing tunes, it's also one of my personal best takes on orchestral/
2:45 Gasp of two distants (Riulyn's Theme, 2005) - An unfinished refined version of a character theme song for a story I was formulating. Made this after returning from the Philippines trip.
3:27 Spring Withers (Melody Makeover, 2005) - Based on a base melody by the OMIDIA admin, make a song out of it. I like the progression and harmony going along with this piece.
4:02 Sweet Scent (2005) - First song made with score view in my sequencer. It sounds absolutely cliche, yet it sounds memorable. Perhaps there's room for this piece to be expanded?
4:50 Dream Driving (2005) - An atonal MIDI piece pushing the timbres of XG MIDI to a soundscape. Think, drowsy driver on a highway.
6:43 Crying for us (2005) - An unfinished OP song for a story I was making. I felt that the more I worked with this piece, I felt I lost the point and made it worse. Originally intended to have lyrics, but because I suck bad at writing lyrics...yeah. Inspired by 80's/90's soul/ballad and anime of course.
6:45 Fanfare I (for Tales of Aselia, 2005) - Little jingle for a game idea that never took off. Sleeping at an inn, or receiving a special item?
6:52 Chaz' Theme Past ~arranged~ (for Fox Tale, 2005) - This is my remix of a composition a dear friend of mine made, and I say it must be one of the best collaborations ever. Learnt so much from each other, and exchanged music amongst ourselves. woofle95 is making an album, so be sure to listen when he's finished! It's also one of the longest songs I've ever contributed to.
8:12 FiiivivvviiMAJ ~inst. arrange~ (2006) - A terrible arranged version of a composition I made for music class at school. We were only allowed to write above a particular chord progression, and I hated it so much the arrangement sounds that way too.
8:52 SCC3 Round 1 - Winter Battle Theme (2006) - A short, cold-timbred, odd-time frantic battle theme for the short clip contest at VGMusic. I forfeited by Round 2 as I ran out of ideas for the next theme.
9:12 Worldenbience (2007) - A request done for someone wanting a 3-minute tune for a cellphone game they were making for a uni project. I never heard back from him, but it was meant to be some kind of birds-eye map view type of game, with a time limit.
9:40 Unreachable sky (for 1000 Notes v2, 2007) - An unfinished composition for an unfinished contest at OMIDIA. I think the theme had to do with jazz or reaching up, can't remember... Anyway, it just got a bit messy and I wasn't really competent with jazz repetoire at the time.
10:10 Reincarnation (CDLR6, 2006) - Divine Intervention theme, Thought too much of anime and trance at the time, but it did feel somewhat grandiose, compositionally.
10:59 Invertographic (CDLR6, 2006) - Bad Moon theme, I thought of retro video game music (chiptunes) making this piece, so I thought why not tackle a retro-styled space theme. It's a tad loud, but I think the noises make the point clear.
11:56 Ambiguous decision to kill (CDLR6, 2006) - Heartache of battle theme, this was one of my personal favourites given the manic, rhythm/bass-driven nature. It makes nods to Ishikawa's frantic arpeggios of Kirby fame, but timbrally mellowed out with a darker sense of emotion. I thought of betrayal in this case, if put in a story context.
12:55 Frontier A (CompoST56 OHC, 2006) - a one-hour composition with the theme of FLEETS. I felt this piece really maintained the tension despite being melodically sparse.
13:30 Under the Green aka Ironia Village (The Suxorian Diamond, 2006) - A request piece for someone that was making an RPG/Adventure game that needed a village theme. Sadly the game never made it past the drawing board.
14:00 Truly a Wonder (CDLR6, 2006) - Love theme, personal favourite. Basically, a harmonic duo with an untold fate, was the idea.

NB: CDLR6 pieces made 2nd place overall.

All songs are (C) James Alan Nguyen (as dj.tuBIG/MaliceX), unless stated otherwise.
