I saw Placido Domingo live in Toronto at 70 year old, he was a legend among us

A truly magnificent voice. An heroic baritone with tenor capabilities ~ what a mix. I love his voice. And he's a nice man, too.

By his own admission (on the Dick Cavett Show in 1979), Domingo was NEVER truly a baritone. He sang in that register early on because he didn't know how to access the tenor acuti.
That's why Domingo's Boccanegra, although respectful, was not first-rate. His climaxes in this role were those of a tenor, not a baritone. A big-voiced tenor's G above the staff is simply less exciting than that of a big-voiced baritone.

*Sigh*..I just spend the last 2 hours sitting here listening to Domingo, Pavarotti, Caruso, Carreras, Licitra and Lanza. MAN my feet may NEVER FREAKING hit he ground again!!

Totally beautiful. We have been blessed with voices like this and several others and this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I do not know the words, but makes no difference - the beauty is breath taking. He surely sings with the Angels.
