Fall 2008 -- final project for our paperweight making class. The week before the final class each of the 9 class members made 2 small paperweights, one cube shaped and one triangle shaped. The cubes were about 2" x 2" X 2" and the triangles were similar in size. All 18 small paperweights as well as a small cube shaped weight made by the class instructor were incorporated within the BIG paperweight. At the beginning of the final class the small weights were heated in a hot box. Two glassmakers from the Corning Stueben Glass shop came to our last class to help execute the BIG paperweight under the direction of the class instructor Carl Siglen. Class members played supporting roles during the process. The work took at least 2 hours from the beginning until placing the BIG paperweight into the annealing oven.
