Krishna Das in Concert

Video clip of world-renowned musical artist, author and teacher, Krishna Das, performance held Thursday, July 9th, 2009 at an evening of kirtan devotional yoga through chanting event. Held at Seaside Center for Spiritual Living in Encinitas, California. For anyone unfamiliar with the term, a kirtan is the practice of chanting mantras or other songs of worship as a form of Bhakti yoga; the yoga of spiritual devotion.

Almost all spiritual traditions use some form of music and chanting to help reconnect our center of consciousness with that of the Divine Oneness. The melodies of the kirtan help to dissipate the seemingly constant internal dialogs, so we can simply Be.

The wonderful thing about music is that in almost any form, it creates some kind of deep emotional response within most people. And, whether we actually understand or not the words of a chant , its repetitive, rhythmic nature is a powerful tool in creating a state of meditation-through-music.
Almost constantly on tour, Krishna Das steadfastly practices his form of Bhakti yoga by performing kirtans, leading workshops and retreats and teaching throughout the world. His innovative music and rich voice are a mainstay in many a yoga class, and his events are generally filled to capacity as was the case with his Encinitas performance attended by some 600 + people.
