  • Back when I was in high school,, a buddy and I would go over to a little town named Campbellton, FL in extreme n. Florida and catch rattlers. In a place we knew about there were dozens and dozens of gopher (land tortoise) holes and during cold weather they would be in those gopher holes. I think the snakes and the tortoises co-existed peacefully. I'm sure this would be illegal now, but back then it was ok. The biggest one we caught was a few inches over six feet.

  • good post. I live in Tampa and saw one 2 weeks ago at Flatwoods Preserve off of Bruce B. Downs in new Tampa. Sucker was huge around 5 feet long, up until then I'd only seen them in the zoo. They are definitely prevelant in this area.

  • gorgeous snake!!
