Nicosia - Ledra Street Opening nearly didn't happen

Al Jazeera's Tim Friend reports on the opening of Nicosia's Ledra Street and the difficulties experienced in both getting it to open at all, and in keeping it open. The insistence of the 'police force' of Turkey's illegal statelet on the island staking a claim into the Green Line in the glare of international publicity on this day illustrates the difficulties involved, as explained in the interview with George Iacovou who explained that the opening nearly did not happen at all.

It's a huge step in the right direction because it allows contact between ordinary people on both sides in the heart of the capital.
