Phil-L.A. 313 An excellent example of backing track re-use. The B side of the 1968 hit "The Horse"
'Love Is All Right' was backed by a jamming instrumental track called, 'The Horse'. Released in May of 68', 'Love Is All Right' took a death dive when a DJ in Tampa, Florida began to flip the record over and play 'The Horse'. Afterwards, the Horse became the A-side and ' Love Is All Right' became the B-side. Credited as Cliff Nobles & Co, ' The Horse' hit No 2 on the R&B singles the week ending July 13, 1968 and No 2 Pop, the week ending June 29.
'The Horse' would have climbed into No 1 position had it not been for another instrumental masterpiece entitled 'Grazing In The Grass' by trumpet great Hugh Masekela on Uni. 'The Horse' went on to sell two million copies. Taken from: http://www.chancellorofsoul.com/noble...

Released in the UK on Direction, "The Horse" became a classic of the "Rhythm & Soul" scene, while poor old Cliff Nobles came to realize that most folk would prefer to hear his record WITHOUT him singing on it! :-) However, I understand the backing musicians later formed the nucleus of MFSB, so it's a classic Philly track in it's own right.
The same as was done with 'Boogaloo Down Broadway' by The Fantastic Johnny C (anything to do with Cliff Nobles being that it's on the same label? I should do my research.) Flip that one over and you'll hear "Look What Love Can Do" with the same audio track as the A-side and equally as good.

I have a 1961 tube Newcomb purchased from a local school district for next to nothing, and it performs great with clean powerful sound...Lloyd.
