Lydia Johnson ( 1896-1969 ) sings a 1935 slow tango by Bixio/Galdieri from the film "l'eredità dello zio buon'anima".M° Mariotti conductor.
This russian singer was active in Italy from 1925.
So che fermati è van
So che tu parti doman
non darti pena per me
ma un dono sol
vorrei ancor da te

Amore, amor,
portami tante rose,
stasera ancor
tu dimmi tante cose.

Soffocherò il mio cuor,
come pretendi tu.
Potrai mentir ancor,
non piangerò mai più.
Amore amor
non piangerò mai più.
Che mai sarà di me
non domandarlo perchè come una stella cadrò e forse un dì nel nulla tornerò.

Amore, amor,
portami tante rose,
ma tante ancor
scegli le più spinose.

Le stringerò sul cuor
come stringessi te.
Se non ho più il tuo amor,
che mai sarà di me.
Amore amor
che mai sarà di me...

  • I am amazed to have found this video..as it is my Grandmother Lydia Johnson. She was a singing and movie star in the 1930's and 1940's in Italy. My 81 year old mother hadn't heard her voice in 60 years and was in tears.. We are so blessed to have found this recording and want to thank the ones who posted it.

Lydia Johnson was born in Russia and was a Prima Ballerina in her younger years until she broke her toe. She then moved on to Italy and had an even greater career as a singer and actress.

  • When my baby hear this song, he falls asleep! Great!

  • sorry singdesertgirl, youtube was acting up anyone on that site I mention is a pic of your grandma.

  • in the misc. photos category of singers of the 30s and 40s. takes a little maneuvering to find the page, she is on page 31 I think

  • @singdesertgirl @singdesertgirl Hi thanks to youtube I can also listen to my great uncle Emilio Livi sing this song and many others. He was a contemporary of your grandmother! How cool is this, I love youtube. I found an awesome pic of Lydia Johnson on an Italian website about the Trio Lescano, three women who sang during that era. They were like the Andrews Sisters!

  • canzoni da un passato remoto, particolarmente la voce. Bella!
