the orz and the spathi's looks are the only improvments compared to SC2

Were you playing on easy difficulty? If I recall, the AI does not use the Orz ships' special abilities (rotating turret and "GO GO GO, do you know?") on easy difficulty. However, they fly the ship in the same manner regardless of difficulty, so fighting them on Easy is very boring. They constantly run away because they are supposed to be shooting backwards and launching their boarding parties at you.

Star Control I was great dude, don't even clump it with 3. SC II was on a completely different level though.
