RECIPE - Vegan Philly Cheesesteak
The Vegetarian Librarian
http://www.veglib.com

4 vegan Italian sausages
2 white onions
Chicago Soydairy STRETCHY Mozzarella Teese
1 loaf French bread
Olive oil

Slice sausages into long, thin strips and heat them in the oven or on the stovetop. Sauté onions in olive oil until soft and starting to brown. Slice bread and assemble your sandwich. Layer the soycheese in between the heated sausages and onions to help it melt. Put the whole thing in the oven for a minute or two to speed up the melting and toast the bread a bit. Slice it up and enjoy.

RECIPE - Parsley Potatoes

4 medium sized potatoes
1 clove of garlic, minced
1 handful of fresh parsley (or one tsp. dried)
2 Tbs. olive oil
salt and pepper

Peel and chop potatoes into 1 inch cubes. Finely chop fresh parsley. Combine ingredients in a bowl. Season with S&P to taste. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 30 minutes or until potatoes are soft, turning potatoes every 10-15 minutes while cooking.

The guys at Chicago Soydairy http://www.chicagosoydairy.com/index.php were so nice to surprise us with a sample of their new, improved and stretchy Mozzarella Vegan Teese (not yet in stores).

I am sure purists may frown upon our interpretation of the Philadelphia classic, but we know something is good when a week later our apartment still smells like onions :) We had a blast in the City of Brotherly Love last fall. Read about it in our Mid-Atlantic Vegan Dining Adventures post: http://wp.me/pwMJK-cj Highlights included ringing the Liberty Bell and filling up on vegan dim sum at Kingdom of Vegetarians Restaurant... but sadly no vegan cheese steaks. Any one know where you can get one when in Philly?

  • Vegan cooking are more challenging than nonvegan cooking. A person who can make her own seitian from scratch really knows about cooking. You're one awesome vegan cook. thanks for sharing.

  • I love vegan cheese steaks! <3

  • Veglib: I swear to you, I sometimes click your videos only to hear that catchy little diddy at the beginning, I've had it stuck in my head before

  • There is a place called Carmen's in Ridley, Pa (outside Philly) that advertises a vegan cheesesteak. I once tried a cheesesteak (not vegan) there using fried mushrooms instead of steak. Not bad. My wife makes veg cheesesteaks using Trader Joe's beef strips and real American cheese. Not vegan, but the best vegetarian cheesesteak alternative I've tasted.

  • It was funny how you sat down and were going to eat the whole thing!
