My Mom Rose has been getting the Enbrel for Alzheimer's Treatment since March 2008. In July 2008, and again this last Feb 2009, she had major surgeries. Most AD patients never quite recover from such set-backs, but Mom is doing OK. Her best point was right before the surgery in July 08. She was set way back since we had to stop the treatments while she was in the hospital, and because of the physical problems. We started up her treatments again, and she came back to us, not quite as good as she was in June 08, but still better than she was before we started the treatments in March 2008. We are continuing the treatments, and she is definitely still maintaining her abiltiy to talk, eat, laugh, and just enjoy the company of her family.
Enbrel for Alzheimer's, Perispinal Etanercept is an off=label treatment so insurance and medicare won't pay for it. More and more doctors are being trained every month, and more patients are being treated every week. Our hope is that enough people come forward to share their experience with this treatment, so that the FDA will take a serious look at it. This treatment is controversial, and there have been many stories regarding the doctor and the pharmaceutical company that won't back this treatment. No matter what anyone says, this treatment has now helped over 100 patients and the numbers are growing. Please look past the controversy and investigate this for yourself and your loved ones. It doesn't work for everyone...nothing does. But, I believe the success rate is at about 75 - 80% which is miraculous for this disease. It can improve some of their cognitive abilities, then help maintain them...hopefully for the rest of their lives. The treatment has only been given for a little over four years now, and some of those initial patients that are still receiving the treatment are still maintaining.

Sorry to hear about Rose.
We talked through YouTube back in 2008, when my family and I were debating whether to try the Enbrel treatments for my mother- diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2003. The odd vibe we got from the local (across the state)Enbrel treatment center- plus sparse positive press for the treatments led us to opt not to go that route. My mother passed 2 weeks ago, after much loving care by my father, sister and her daughters.

Is it possable that the treatments can stop further decline and allow the patient to gradually relearn. Is there a theory of the mechanicism of action?

Felicia, great to see mom doing so well. After all she's been through with those 2 major surgeries, I'm even more convinced that Enbrel is keeping her from slipping away. Love Big sis, Gloria

Yes, she was! Thank you MrNorway,I miss her very much.
Dr. Tobinick's Perispinal Etanercept (Enbrel) treatment is still not available to most people. But, studies now show that a high percentage of patients that have been using Enbrel for Rheumatoid Arthritis have a LOWER incidence of Alzheimer's, so Enbrel can possibly even help prevent AD. This validates Dr. Tobinick's theory. But, for those that already have the disease, I think Dr. T's method is needed to reverse some symptoms.

Hi all,
Mom has since passed away because of other health issues. The treatment was working, but she had other problems that kept pushing her backward...3 surgeries in one year was just too much. We had to stop the treatment, and when we did, she just drifted away from us. But I am grateful for the extra time we had with her.
