Football Showtime! n°3: Hungary 1954

Before Holland in 1974 and Brazil in 1982, a wonderful national team which has not won the world cup, even if they were the best at that time. Gold medal in 1952 olympics games, winners in Wembley in an historical friendly match against England (6x3 for Hungary), and losers in the Rimet final in 1954. In that world cup they scored 27 goals in 5 matches, here in chronological order:

9x0 vs South Korea (2 Puskas, 3 Kocsis, 2 Palotas, Lantos, Czibor)
8x3 vs West Germany (4 Kocsis, 2 Hidegkuti, Toth, Puskas)

the germans never have the best team or the best players, but they end up winning after all, one of the many things in football i'll never understand

Hungary 1954 and Netherlands 1974 was the best team..but lose again west germany...

The Magic Magyars were incredible! It's too bad they didn't win it, as they really deserved to. Puskas was an incredible force to be reckoned with, as he would prove at Real Madrid in the late 50s and early 60s. And Kocsis--prodigious! I need to check and see if this is the most goals by a team at a World Cup.
