@zakirnaikmuzzybaboon The area is awash in weapons supplied by the West (US, China etc) in order to destabilize the region and break up centralized government, easier to deal with local warlords in order to exploit oil resources. Piracy is a minor annoyance that has arisen due to the West's manipulations. Also, foreigners were dumping radioactive material in the waters there and modern fishing fleets were stealing fish offshore from subsistence fishers. Understandable they might be upset.

@zakirnaikmuzzybaboon You're right. You don't understand. These are not organized pirates, they are just fishermen without any other way to survive. Some are forced by various rivaling warlords to do what they do. There is no way to "kill em all" because there are no "all" to kill. One little ship with pirates probably has nothing to do with the next pirate ship. Kill one warlord and another will take his place. There sometimes is no difference between a civilian and a pirate.

@zakirnaikmuzzybaboon Not that simple, US has oil interests to protect, China is competing with US over oil interests and if US starting executing pirates summarily the legit (if you can call it that) Somali government might become angered and favor China even more. Relations with allied oil countries in region might also be affected. Countries without direct vested interest, like Russia, are able to deal more harshly with pirates. You want gas for your car then you gotta play politics.
