@crabbit87 You are spot on with your reply and speed is all about developing quick-twitch muscles so plyometric training would be more apt for developing speed. What this guy is doing here is as you said endurance training.

i do these except with 5lb weights is that bad for my hands or ineffective for my endurance in boxing? Because i don't have anywhere to train as yet???

Actually you are training endurance here more than anything else. Speed is more efficiently acquired by training short relaxed bursts of 3 to 4 punches. Focus on staying relaxed and speed will come.
