something about this short though it's that it was FUN. Hulk fighting the new Hulkbusters, fighting ghosts of all the big villains, Hulk fighting Wonder Man, Iron Man, Hercules, Namor. And then an epic one-on-one fight against Doc Samson. for any kids wich I was when I read that it was a dream come true to have John Byrne having a ball drawing these characters.

I think if you realise that the inking was not the best on this, I think most of it was top notch, except the Hulk himself wich you're right it was inconsistent. Byrne tried to return him to his Kirby look somewhat wich was less muscular and more bulky. I think if in the story he would have looked like the anti-Hulk cover it would have been genius.
As far as the story while not psychological like PAD, Byrne is known for big bold ideas. And separating Hulk and Bruce was an exploration.

Some inkers can ruin an artist art. Which was the case in this set.

The Purple shorts were part of the of the original Hulk vol. 1 series. I prefer them to the always torn same color pants.

this was an incredible review, i like the fact that you gave back story of what went on behind the scenes in the process of makeing this book. i think if bryne's intentions were to take hulk back to his roots of running from the gov, then it was probably best to take him off the book. i think some characters like the hulk should progress past theyre intial beginings sometimes.

@juggernaut44 thanks! and I agree with what you said about character progression. I hate when a writer comes on and progresses a character quite a bit over a long period of time, and then the next writer undoes everything and goes back to the status quo of like the 70s.
