Between Friday the 28th and Sunday the 30th, The Great Central Railway hosted it's annual winter steam gala entitled 'The Banbury Cross' and along with my brothers, i went along to my very first gala!
A number of locos took part with three of it's own locos along with five visiting locomotives
In our third video, we take a look at the day of another of it's guest locomotives, GWR 28xx Class No. 3850!
A development of George Churchward's 2800 class (introduced in 1902), No. 3850 is technically a 2884 class 2-8-0 heavy freight locomotive. this revision to the original design emerged in 1938 from Swindon with No. 3850 itself being built in 1942. Allocated initially to St. Phillips Marsh in Bristol, it spent time in the West Country. It was first withdrawn in 1958, then put back into traffic the following year, eventually being withdrawn in October 1965.
Bought in 1984, it eventually returned to steam in 2006 and is normally resident at the West Somerset Railway. it's now appearing in BR Black livery for the first time since restoration. It is owned by Dinmore Manor Locomotive Ltd and this is the first visit of this class to the Great Central Railway.

Thanks for posting this excellent video. Having been given the honour to drive 3850 on a Driver Experience Day on Sun 13th March 2011 , an experience I can thro'oughly recommend . I am now a lifelong fan of the GCR and this locomotive in particular. Long may they steam.
