1946 - WWII HAD ENDED AND THE RUSH TO PRODUCE CARS WAS ON. HUDSON CAME OUT WITH A FRESH AND WELL LIKED DESIGN THIS YEAR. IN 1947 HUDSON MOTORS PRODUCED THE SAME WARMED OVER MODEL. THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN '46 AND '47 WERE: SLIGHTLY REDESIGNED FRONT BUMPER AND AN ALTERED FRONT HUDSON BADGE, NEW INTERIOR CHOICES, AND A REDESIGNED RADIO. THAT'S IT. BUT THE HIDDEN RUNNING BOARDS FIRST SEEN ON 46 MODELS WAS RETAINED. HUDSON MOTOR CAR CO. PRODUCED THEIR 3 MILLIONTH VEHICLE THIS YEAR BUT DROPPED TO 11TH PLACE IN U.S. CAR SALES. THERE WERE 4 MODELS AGAIN THIS YEAR. SUPER SIX, COMMODORE SIX, SUPER EIGHT AND COMMODORE EIGHT WITH ALL MODELS HAVING 4 DOOR SEDANS, CLUB COUPES, 3 PASSENGER COUPES, AND CONVERTIBLE COUPES. OH, AND A FEW PICK UP TRUCKS WHICH ARE REALLY RARE. ENGINE CHOICES WERE THE SAME L-HEADS: AN L6, 212 CID, 102 BHP, AND AN L8, 254 CID, 128 BHP. THIS EXAMPLE HERE IS A COMMODORE SIX, ONE OF 25,138 BUILT. IT WEIGHS 3,175 LBS., AND COST $1,862. I ALWAYS LIKED THE LOOKS OF THESE POST-WAR HUDSONS. THE LOW CHROME STRIPS RUNNING THE LENGTH OF THE CAR, THE ILLUMINATED HOOD ORNAMENT, THE PONTOON FENDERS, HIDDEN RUNNING BOARDS, AND THE RECESSED GRILLE ARE STAND-OUT ATTRACTIVE DESIGN CUES. MAYBE HUDSON DID THE RIGHT THING IN PRODUCING THE VIRTUALLY SAME DESIGN 2 YEARS IN A ROW. Another rare car brought to you by 55lincoln.

  • I GOT THE ADS TO THIS CAR JOES VINTAGE CAR ADS .CO M

  • @dogfacejoe1 I have a wall of old car ads framed with glass fronts filling a wall in my home. Old car ads are great to cherish. Thanks for enjoying this Hudson and I hope that others will check out your car ads.

  • Where about are you i Missouri., Love to see some Hudsons at the local car show. John

  • @bigbaddjohn1 I am located in the St. Louis area. The only Hudson's I usually see are at the Horseless Carriage Club car show which occurs every Easter Sunday in St. Louis Forest Park. I saw 3 Hudson products there last year.

  • This is indeed a beautiful car. I think it's worth noting however, that the '46 Hudson was virtually identical to the '42 model, including the concealed runningboards. The biggest visual difference was the recessed center section of the grille. I notice that this car has (or at least had) Hudson's Drive-Master (see chrome nameplate on trunk lid), which was Hudsons unique optional semi-automatic transmission with automatic clutch. An amazing system, especially when combined with overdrive.

  • @nashtwin8 You are correct. A warmed over model from '42. I really liked that recessed grille. Did any other car have this before? Thanks for all of your info and comments. I appreciate it very much.

  • Had the boardroom not been so greedy, the corporations could have continued to produce collectibles. Maybe not as big and thirsty, but real design could have gone on a while longer. But, greed is a strange old thing. Enough is never enough, and now look at what they call cars. Recycled Coke cans at best!
