A little quick, and I could argue with some of the ornamentation choices, but at the end of the day, she sells it! So beautiful. Happy Birthday, Leontyne!
Her performance (American Opera Society, 1958) is legendary. Here we have a faster tempo, which accentuates what Cleopatra is really up to. The score indicates largo, which doesn't mean lethargic (a modern largo is slower than an adagio, but in the Baroque period it was faster). Ornaments are kept to a minimum, for which I'm grateful. Price and Karajan always made a great team. Beautifully done. Bravi tutti!!!

This is simply glorious singing -- complete vocal freedom, absolute legato line, and endless streams of opulent tone!
