I was a transcendental meditation teacher ordained in 1972 in Spain by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The cost at that time was $35 for students $75 for adults. Even adjusting for inflation come on $1,500.00.?!....All this talk about expanded awareness and higher consciousness is nice but charging this kind of money is immoral. TM teachers should have other careers and teach in their free time. I am ashamed at the elitist organization that has grown around this technique.

@prutnick There are always ways to get scholarships and financial help to those who can't afford it but want to learn. Please visit tm.org's tuition section for more information. Part of the reason the David Lynch Foundation was established was to bring TM to those who need it but can't afford it.

It is inexplicable that such a high fee is charged for something that the TM movement states is so beneficial to human beings and as a result to society as a whole. Why do you need a teacher for something so simple in the first place? The explanation given is very convenient, that TM can be only passed on by a teacher to the student, and that the teacher needs to make a living. Surely can't these so called teachers be part-time volunteers who are professionals in other fields?

I have found TM has been through the roof since I stopped eating any animals or dairy. We can't eat our own and nature is part of this. I hope this helps you and hopefully the animals. xo

@UTprema why cant spirituality be a job.why not.we all have the capacity to learn, with a teacher we just get there quicker, in balance with each other...its a life skill..like musicianship or english..why the worry of the charge...to learn an instrument it costs alot more..over the years...why not pay a bit to balance the having with the being...they are two equal traits...
