Great sound - still got my own copy of this - always thought this sounded like Booker T and the MGs, except it's even more sparse than their usual sound, then it moves into Ramsey Lewis territory. Knockout.

I thought this song was lost to me. I haven't heard it since 1965 or 66. Long live that old time 60's soul.
-
Ok, i grew up in the east coast, New Jersey. We didn't do the "Fat Man" we had a dance called The "Old Man" And I agree, the 60's were a great decade to go to high school.

Part 2 of 2
In the high country (Baldwin Hills, View Park), the flat lands or over in the Jungle we all had lists of parties city wide. This represents an era when teenagers could act like teenagers. No violence and none of the B.S. like today.
Thanks for the posting of this song...

Go to school, study and party on Friday night and Saturday night. In the high country (Baldwin Hills, View Park), the flat lands or over in the Jungle we all had lists of parties city wide.

This song bring me a lot of memories of my high school years.
It was on legendary dj Magnificent Montague's Pure Soul label. He produced it and debuted here in LA in 1965. Montagues' "Burn Baby Burn" was the way he referred to records that sizzled. Unfortunately, it became associated with the Watts Riots. I remember if he liked a particular groove he would "back it up four more bars". He knew how to program music. Today's dj's are automatons.
