is the zdp-189 hard to sharpen and how long does it takes and my friend has a brand new one he would sell me for 50 bucks do you think it is worth it thanks

If you have good stones you will be fine, most use diamonds on it.
The trick is not to let it get dull, just keep touching it up and it's easy to deal with with something like a sharpmaker.

Good points you make.
I had the same problem with the pivot screw loosening. Had to use blue lock-tight.
Was the one you ground down originally a saber grind?

No it was a FFG also, just had been reprofiled like 4 times so it was getting worn down so I had to thin it out.
