The Entrepreneurial Sindhi (Part 4 of 6)

Entrepreneurship is in the blood of Sindhis. This talk will cover how we can retain and grow our entrepreneurial nature, bringing positive impact to the world in the process, and even turn our diaspora into one of our greatest strengths (for instance, through events like this YSA Retreat). In 1947, Mahatma Gandhi said "The Sindh Hindus are first-class businessmen. Why are they running away to Bombay, Madras and other places? It will not be they who will be the losers... for they will make money for themselves, wherever they go. There is hardly any place in the world where Sindhis are not found. In South Africa they were making big money and gave of it liberally to the poor." Gandhi could not have hit the nail on the head any better.

In addition to drawing upon our entrepreneurial nature, specific topics that I discuss in this talk will include:
* Planning your own business venture and turning it into reality,
* The do's and don'ts of networking,
* Personal finance for entrepreneurs, and
* Lessons learned in the wild.

Neil Daswani is a co-founder of Dasient, Inc., (www.dasient.com/) a new stealth-mode Internet security company backed by some of the most influential investors in Silicon Valley. In the past, Neil has served in a variety of research , development, teaching, and managerial roles at Google (www.google.com/adwords/adtrafficquality/tech.html) , Stanford University, (http://scpd.stanford.edu/computerSecurity/courses/softwareSecurityFoundations.h­tm) DoCoMo USA Labs, Yodlee, and Bellcore (now Telcordia Technologies). While at Stanford, Neil cofounded the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) Security Certification Program (http://proed.stanford.edu/?security). His areas of expertise include security, wireless data technology, and peer-to-peer systems. He has published extensively in these areas, frequently gives talks at industry and academic conferences, and has been granted several U.S. patents. He received a Ph.D. and a master's in computer science from Stanford University, and earned a bachelor's in computer science with honors with distinction from Columbia University.
