On one scorching hot Monday during summer in 2009 I travelled down to Sutherland, which is the southern border of the Sydney metro area. It took me bloody 40mins to run into this truck's path! I travelled across the suburbs of Jannali and Como twice, through a mega tonne of streets and finally the presence of a nearby truck became evident, where I was happy to find this middle aged side loader lifting the red lidded bins.

Thanks very much to the helpful and friendly driver, hope you all enjoy the video, ratings and comments are highly appreciated. I have some other Sutherland videos which features two trucks collecting green-waste and a rear loader handling the clean-up.

Body Make: MacDonald Johnston
Model: 22m MkIV SPORT : Standard Refuse Body
Chassis: Iveco Acco
Council: Sutherland Shire
Contractor: Council Works
Collection Type: Garbage / Trash

  • What suburb did you film this in?

  • @SitaEnvironmental I was videoing around Como on a Monday.

  • Fantastic vid, love seeing the different body mfg.'s in the same area! So greens/recyc. alternate week by week here? Thanks for sharing :)

  • Yep I believe it's one week recycle and the next greens - I've seen seperate pictures with trucks collecting both recycle and greens so that's my idea... not the strongest evidence to prove my theory, but it's likely.

  • Another nice video Mitch. Sounds different to some of the later ACCO's from 2006 onwards, and its got a nice fast arm!

  • Thanks for the reply! Yeah, should have figured because of the German Bruder ASL models :) That makes sense...

  • Hi Trashman, it depends. In areas with more single houses, they use side loaders, because of the smaller trash cans, while in areas with multy-story buildings, they use rear-loaders because of the (bigger) collective trash containers.

greetings and good night for today

  • Yep, it sure does....some people just don't get it. But on the first few weeks of the service it's certainly understandable...Do you guys have side loaders like this in Germany? I had thought it'd mostly be RLs.
