Adam Smith feat. Jean-Baptiste Colbert
It's All About the Economies
Slap in the Face from an Invisible Hand
Sustainable Productions

Intro

So, you wanna learn and be smart?
Inquire on the nature of wealth
In Europe, with kings and queens
Tryin to squeeze the money
Out the serfs to protect em
From gettin hurt in the night
They hired knights to fight
Their wars in foreign territory
For the fee of a hereditary fief
Which could not support the sort
Of religious wars being fought
So the lords turned their backs like Lot
And sought smarter new systems
To replace the futile feudal kingdoms

Charlemagne had it all wrong
My strategy brought the wealth on
I made France into Goliath I'm a genius
So much gold the coffers outta space like Venus
Our tariffs protect domestic trade
You'd act a fool to let those industries fade
Under me foot soldiers were paid in wages
In an army larger than any outta the Middle Ages
Playas hate on imperialism like it's the devil
They just mad they can't get up on my level
Thinkin of all the goods we hope to receive
We make the natives toil without reprieve
But for the sake of bullion
Imma bully on
Critics say my methods propagate inflation
But what do they know bout managing a nation?

Chorus

Enter me on the scene with capitalism
My tactics fixed the problems that had arisen
With the Industrial Age we see a rise in production
Now government interference will make you outta luck, son
Economic freedom allows for entrepreneurship
Motive by self-interest means I don't give a -- darn.
If you want a stake in the fruits of my labor
I'll tie you to it and burn you like Salem "for God's favor"
By using comparative advantage we do just fine
No more paying for that crappy Scottish wine
Ricardo says the economy's gonna reach its limit
But I take the limit of X to the infinite
Rights are ensured through effective legal courts
Binding men to their contracts of all sorts
A better system than mine there will never be
So Owen, Fourier, Marx, get at me!

You say capitalism exploits all the people
All I see a is higher standard of living, though
Calling for a revolution of the working class
You deluded violent Marxists can kiss my ring
To kill a lot of homies and not change a thing
Is a mistake not worth suffering.
Getting rid of private property would not be good
Debates with all the others on what the government should
Do will split the party like the Dead Sea
And your ideology will end up dead, see?
Without competition in socialized industry
Economic growth will falter, then where will we be?
I have a hunch that we'll be eating our promised lunches
Until a dictator takes over via falcon punches
While you write your manifesto the peasants work
To "save" them you should think up an idea that works.

Chorus
