T-Mobile G1 Pros & Cons HERE.
The first Android device in the world, is here. Many people love it and some hate it. One thing is clear, Android have just landed and now its effect is going to expand. Better or worst than the iPhone. Should Steve be afraid?. Discover its pros and cons after the jump.
Pros
Free developer platform: It is the first advantage against the iPhone, people can add its app for free and without filters on Android Market.
Price and data plans: G1 will be available for 179$ with a two-year contract of 20$ data plans.
TouchScreen & QWERTY keyboard: Many people hate iPhone´s screen-keyboard because it is an slowly way to write mails or whatever. G1 features its qwerty keyboard revealed when you slide open its screen.
Customizable desktop: G1 allows you to custom as you want its desktop, you can place everything from individual contacts, music playlists, folders, web pages, and more.
Interchangeable battery: you can take some batteries with you and interchange them whenever you want, no screwdriver needed.
Background App functionality: Unlike the iPhone, G1 allows to run many app at the same time working all of them in background.
MMS service: This features must be updated to the iPhone by Apple. :(
Google Street view: It is of course the coolest way to work with Google maps, Street view displays the street you are searching and you can look around it thanks to G1 acelerometers. Result is incredible, its seems you are in this place. (check video below from 02:00 minute)
Cons
No Exhange compatibily: Like the iPhone, Google makes the same error. Exhange is not allowed either. It cant physically be synced with a PC-based calendar or contacts program, like Microsoft Outlook.
Size and aesthetic: G1 is not as cool as an iPhone, it is obvious and even it seems to be built in a poor plastic cover. It is nearly 30% thicker and almost 20% heavier than the iPhone (Walt Mossberg afirms). But Its a bit narrower so it could be more confortable to hold.
Nonexistent memory storage: Just only 256MB of ROM memory, you must upgrade this storage using SD cards. :(
No video player: This option has not been supported, you must download any player from the market to starting playing videos :(
No headphones jack connection: This is unforgivable, its has been supported with and original HTC ExtUSB. You must buy a converter or hearphones especially designed for this connection.
No multitouch: Another Google error, Why HTC does not provide this device with multitouch functionality? Oh men, unbelievable. Now you must use virtual zoom and other to move on the screen :(
No video recording supported: No comments
No A2DP supported: You can not use Bluetooth handsfree, unless yet.
Availability plans for Europe: G1 will be available next Q1 of 2009 in Europe, but only some countries has been mentioned, What about the rest? and What about Asian users?
n summary G1 is a great platform for developers, it is free to upload your app and you can custom the device as you want. There are some great features like Street view but in my opinion there are lot of cons: The Nonexistent headphone standard connection and not multitouch screen are unforgivable failures. My First impression scores this device as a 5/10. I have to wait till I hold one on this in my hands to change my mind.

Um, in your description you list as it not having multitouch as "unforgiveable"? Go ahead and tell me which other top PDA besides the iPhone has it? Oh...NONE? Maybe that's because Apple has it PATENTED. And STILL, Google and HTC put the multitouch functionality in the phone, it is only not activated (legal issues). Thats right, since Android is open source, all it needs is someone to enable it, which has already been done by certain people.
Learn your facts before acting as if you did.
