Original song sung and written by Sasha Yatchenko at age 11. She wrote it about her great grandfather, my father John E. Flaherty Sr. of South Boston, Ma. USA. The shoes she refers to in the song were Dutch wooden shoes that she would put on and dance with when she would visit him. My father was an avid race horse fan and would have all of us put in his bets for him. He loved being able to watch the races on the television. He was a Clerk/Magistrate and worked full time up until his death at the age of 94, the longest-sitting clerk of court in the State. We have so many great memories of him. The pictures were taken by me in Kilfenora, Ireland 2007.
I am from Kilfenora. This is my mothers funeral. This is my fathers funeral. It will, please God, be my funeral. The undertaker is Jimmie Nagle and his son James. The gravediggers are Fachie, Timmie, James and Michael (a young father who has since died suddenly). There is deep respect, real faith in God and a profound gentle humanity is a Kilfenora funeral. You have captured this. Thank You.

My granddaughter captures the solemnity of the occasion with the religious understanding of an adult, but the innocence of a child, wishing to talk to her great grandfather of whom she was quite fond. We were very impressed with the affection shown the deceased by the mourners. It is as it should be, her life was celebrated in a great turnout of the community. Jimmy Nagle was a joy to meet. We are sorry for the loss of Michael. Visiting this cemetery was very moving. Every marker had a story.
