If I want to submit a movie... would I need to only have royalty free music in it?

We go on the assumption that music rights have been secured and would only ask for proof if we wanted to rebroadcasted it on local television. Some filmmakers have been able to get permission to use music royalty free for the specific purpose of exhibitions at film festivals. Many filmmakers also seek out original music from local musicians. Bottom line: unless there is something egregious about the use of music that can't be avoided when reviewing, films are judged on their individual merits.
