@davidkennedydds, with a few mercury-free countries now in existence, an experiment is effectively underway. There are now entire populations growing up without mercury in their mouths. Their health can be compared with the health of other nations, and the correlations analyzed.

Problem is, we have to wait many decades before such a comparison can be made.

@davidkennedydds, bkdmd is shocking in his lack of concern. I'm not telling people to have all their mercury fillings removed. I'm saying let's have some truth, let's have ongoing research, and let's allow the public to make an informed choice, knowing all the potential risks and benefits.

If I were in government, I'd be funding scientists to develop 100% safe - and affordable! - fillings. One group is close to achieving that.

@davidkennedydds, they're 50% mercury by weight, less by volume. But given mercury is such a toxic metal, & a main ingredient, it's insane NOT to call them mercury fillings - an appellation should reflect the nature of something!

Yes, they DELIBERATELY call them "silver" fillings to keep us ignorant. They r acting like the tobacco firms: is smoking harmful? We're not sure. Let's do some research. Ah, it's very harmful - better keep quiet about it then. Not that dentists are doing the research.

@davidkennedydds, bkdmd doesn't realize that I attack both sides, that I have no axe to grind.

I've now read enough, however, not to want mercury fillings and not to trust those defending amalgam, because they are doing so NOT because the science backs them up, but merely to save face.

They better hope mercury isn't implicated in Alzheimer's disease. I'm not happy with composites either, which is why the public must push for 100% safe fillings - we'll get them eventually!
